September 23 is the Fall Equinox, a day of “balance” when the earth’s axis tilts neither towards or away from the sun and is nearly perpendicular to the sun’s rays (thank you Mr. Lott and Earth Science class!). Our bodies and minds are constantly searching for the “balance point”, that point between effort and ease that allows us to stand upright, lift, walk, jump, run, and be aligned comfortably in our day to day lives. We require balance for movement, and muscular coordination creates physical balance. We also benefit from mental and emotional balance, sometimes more difficult to achieve, but they will improve with practice and exercise, just like our physical abilities.
Our feet keep us grounded. Along with our eyes, they send the first signals to our brain to tell what we are standing on and how we are moving. How our feet feel impacts on how the rest of us feels; when our feet hurt, the rest of our body may not feel good, so let’s make our feet happier.
